nx on vista
Nx client works after a fair amount of clicking around.
After you exit the program Vista pops up a dialog:

When you run it again, it acts about the same.
bypass the local proxy
Use notepad as Administrator to edit C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts.
You have to run notepad as Administrator.
See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923947 for how to run notepad as administrator.
Add the following lines:
209.129.16.29 webct.sdccd.edu
209.129.16.13 sdccd.edu
209.129.16.200 rop.ncc.sdccd.net
After you add these lines to your hosts file, you won't have to use the proxy settings for IE.
Your connection will go outside the campus and then come back.
Vista vs. XP Install
When you install XP, it has you set the password for the Administrator account. Vista doesn't do that.
vista standard user
A good way to use Vista is to log in as what they call a standard user. Then when you need more privilages, just run the program with an account that is a member Administrators group.
Tweaking accounts in Vista
The Administrator account
The Administrator account is disabled by default. You can activated it the the user management snap-in in MMC.
login screen
You can have the ctrl-alt-del login style instead of displaying. You get some infromations from help if you search for enable of disable secure logon. But, what you really need to do is set a group policy.
managing disk drives
Vista lets you resize disk drives:

shadow copies
Retrieve a file from the last system restore.
If you are using System Restore, you can retrieve the contents of a folder from its properties. I think you can go down to the file level.
