gimp
GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) is a graphics editor.
You can launch it from a menu thingie or from the command line with:
[ggeller@arthur ~]$ gimp

tips
fixing printing
To make gimp print on some Linux distributions it is necessary to remove the -oraw option in the Setup Printer dialog.
floating selections
When you make a rectangular selection in a big image copy it, create a new doc, and paste, you get a "Floating Selection". You can anchor it with the "Anchor Layer" menu item in the Layers dialog:

Another way to get around this problem is to use the "Paste as New" command from the edit menu.
screen dumps
gimp is the standard way to get Linux screen dumps. Use File -> Aquire -> Screen Shot...
