Microsoft Virtual CD Control Tool allows you to mount a CD image (.iso file) in Windows.

usage

It is not straightforward to use. See ??? hmm... can't find that page anymore!

Here is a synopsis:

  1. Run the VCdControlTool.exe program.
  2. In Virtual CDRom Control Panel, click Driver Control.
  3. In Virtual CR-Rom Driver Control, click Install Driver.
  4. Locate the %systemroot%\System32\Driver folder, click VCdRom.sys, and then click Open.
  5. In Virtual CR-Rom Driver Control, click Start, and then click OK.
  6. In Virtual CDRom Control Panel, click Add Drive, and then click Mount.
  7. Select the .ISO image that you want to mount, and then click Open.
  8. In Select Mount Options, click Ok.

What worked for me:

  1. Copy VCdRom.sys to D:\Windows\System32\drivers\
  2. Run the VCdControlTool.exe program.
  3. In Virtual CDRom Control Panel, click Driver Control.
  4. In Virtual CR-Rom Driver Control, click Install Driver.
  5. Locate the C:Windows\System32\drivers folder, click VCdRom.sys, and then click Open.
  6. In Virtual CR-Rom Driver Control, click Start, and then click OK.
  7. In Virtual CDRom Control Panel, click Add Drive, and then click Mount.
  8. Select the .ISO image that you want to mount, and then click Open.
  9. In Select Mount Options, click Ok.

tips

The installer is also included in GeorgesGoodieDisk as on 7 July 2007.

The virtual cd control panel is supposed to be for XP, but it also worked for me under 2003 server running on VMWare.
