nm-tool is a gnome command-line utility that is supposed to be an alternative for the gui network configuration utilities. I heard about it at a talk at SCALE2008. I doesn't do much for me on harrison:

ggeller@harrison:~$ nm-tool 

NetworkManager Tool

State: connected

print_devices(): didn't get a reply from NetworkManager.
There are no available network devices.

I get the same result when running as root.
