Executive summary: It works OK. The good news is that I haven't lost any data. The bad news is that it is a bit finicky. The degree of finickiness and the precise manifistations depend on the operating system and hardware used in conjunction with this device.

Rating 3/5 stars.

requires Seagate DiskWizard to work with Vista

on ws05

ws05 was my machine the Joe's WSMS classroom.--Ggeller 07:03, 26 June 2007 (PDT)

This drive doesn't work very well with XP or Vista on the Ws05 hardware. Every time I plug it in I get a little popup saying the hardware is not recognized. Sometimes it works if I unplug it and then plug it back into the same port right away.

I tried using one the USB port on the back of the machine an had better luck. Maybe the USB ports on the front of the machine are unpowered or USB 1.1 or stupid or something.

It works just fine with the same hardware when you boot from a Knoppix CD or DVD. It also works well with XP and some of the hardware I have at home.

I installed Seagate's DiskWizard, from http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/discwizard and now it is working with Vista.

on lincoln

lincoln is my workstation at home. It is a 2.4GHz P4 on an intel motherboard with 512MB RAM.

windows xp

The drive is visible in the disktools snapin in mmc, but it isn't mounted and you can't do useful anything with it.

I'm trying the Seagate DiskWizard to see if that helps.

Still not working.

windows 2000 pro
