How to share a printer in Windows XP.

server

The print server is a Windows XP box (Lincoln) with an attached printer. The printer drivers and so on are correctly installed and printing works from the locally. You need to configure shared printing.

Select Printers and Faxes from the start menu:

Right click on the printer you want to share and select properties:

Click on the "Sharing" tab in the printer properties dialog box:

Make sure that share this printer is selected:

Close the properties windows.

client

The client machine is another XP box on the local network.

Select Printers and Faxes from the start menu:

Click on "Add a printer" in the Printers and Faxes window:

Click next in the "Add Printer Wizard" dialog box:

We want to select a network printer, click next:

We want to browse the network to find a printer.

We see the printer we want, but click on LINCOLN:

Now we see the printer twice. I selected the second one and clicked next:

Click yes to get rid of the scary warning:

Yes, we want to make it the default printer, so click next:

We are almost done, click next again:

We finally have a new default printer:
